“Lippan and mirror art are not about colours, mirrors and patterns. They are little pieces of the heart.”

The Atelier Journey

An Atelier of Patience in the Heart of Mumbai

Soulfulart began the way most quiet, lasting things begin — with one wooden board, a bag of clay, and an evening that refused to end. Today, founder and master artisan Rachna Saxena creates original Lippan mirror murals, sacred geometric medallions, and large site-specific architectural relief installations for private residences, interior architects, and mindful collectors across India and worldwide.

Unlike commercial decor produced in assembly-line molds, every single artwork in Rachna’s studio is drawn entirely freehand, without stencils, and built up meticulously line by line over weeks. Each mirror (aabhla) is cut by hand; clay coils are hand-piped with rhythmic devotion; and the final relief is sealed with specialized mineral compounds engineered to withstand India’s coastal humidity.

100% Freehand Sculpted

Zero factory stencils or machine stamps. Every relief curve is unique.

Engineered For Decades

Moisture-sealed substrates that never warp or yellow in Indian monsoons.

Cultural Heritage & Craft Science

The Timeless Tradition of Lippan Kaam

Lippan art (natively known as Lippan Kaam or Chittar Kaam) is a centuries-old indigenous clay relief and mirror mural tradition originating from the Thar Desert of Kutch, Gujarat.

01

Origin in Desert Bhungas

In rural Kutch, pastoral communities such as the Rabari, Marwada Meghwal, and Mutwa lived in cylindrical mud dwellings called Bhungas. Women plastered the earthen walls with clay and dung to insulate against blistering 48°C summer heat and freezing desert nights.

02

Multiplying Divine Light

Inside windowless Bhungas, a single oil lamp (diya) placed near the wall would strike the hand-cut mirrors (aabhla), multiplying tiny points of light into a luminous, star-like glow that illuminated the entire room without smoke or heat.

03

Vastu Shastra Harmony

According to ancient Vastu Shastra principles, placing mirror-inlaid Lippan reliefs on North-East (Ishanya) or East-facing walls reflects morning solar energy, amplifies positive vibrations, and invites peace and prosperity into modern residential sanctuaries.

Frequently Asked Questions

Essential craft insights and digital engineering specifics regarding Soulfulart.

What is Lippan art and where did it originate?

Lippan art (known natively as Lippan Kaam or Chittar Kaam) is a traditional mud-and-mirror clay relief craft originating from the Thar Desert of Kutch, Gujarat, India. Pioneered by the Rabari, Marwada Meghwal, and Mutwa communities, it was historically applied to the walls of desert bhungas for thermal insulation and to reflect ambient oil-lamp light.

Who is Rachna Saxena?

Rachna Saxena is a Mumbai-based contemporary Lippan relief artist and founder of Soulfulart atelier. She sculpts original mud-and-mirror relief panels, architectural murals, and sacred geometric medallions entirely freehand without stencils.

What digital platform did Krinok engineer for Soulfulart?

Krinok architected an enterprise-grade digital atelier using TanStack Start full-stack SSR (React 19), an interactive 2.25x museum zoom lightbox engine for inspecting clay relief coils, and Generative Engine Optimization (GEO/AEO) with llms.txt and deep Schema.org structured data.

How is modern studio Lippan art made moisture-resistant for Indian monsoons?

Contemporary studio Lippan art from Soulfulart replaces traditional mud and animal dung with refined marble dust, chalk compounds, and non-yellowing acrylic polymer resins mounted on marine-grade plywood or teak substrates, ensuring long-term durability in high-humidity climates.

How can I acquire or commission an original artwork from Soulfulart?

Original artworks, nameplates, and bespoke architectural installations can be commissioned directly on the live atelier website at www.soulfulart.in or via direct WhatsApp consultation with the artist.
